We wish you a peaceful Thanksgiving weekend. During holidays there are many expectations placed on us as individuals and we often feel pressure to be happy, look happy, and be social. For those who are grieving the loss of a loved one these expectations can be incredibly difficult to cope with. We can feel shame, or guilt for not wanting to attend, or even ignoring some of the invitations to gatherings. Giving yourself permission to not attend holiday events is one of the biggest things you can do for yourself. Being compassionate to yourself can look like the following: having honest and clear conversations with family and friends who expect you to attend holiday functions, acknowledging that your grief is unpredictable and may catch you off guard, and finally engaging in positive self talk that is motivating, kind, forgiving, and loving.🌻 ... To respect and recognize the importance of the Nat

To respect and recognize the importance of the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, our offices are closed on Monday, September 30, 2024.

We encourage you to participate in local events marking the day at Millbrook First Nation, Sipekne'katik First Nation, or in your community.

We will also light our memorial candle in the window at 89 Queen Street to honour residential school survivors and victims, and reflect on their experiences and the impact of these schools on their families and communities.

Did you know we distribute an average of 15 lapgha

Did you know we distribute an average of 15 lapghans per month on the Palliative Care Unit at CEHHC.

Lapghans are a modest covering for the lower body when being transported in a wheelchair, and provide warmth when used as a shawl or additional bedding over feet. They are cozy and homey, made by a caring heart from our community.

For some family members, the lapghan becomes a cherished item. It may be one of the few personal belongings that was used by their person at the end of their life. It may be the only item from their last days that they can take home as a remembrance of them. Some choose to place the lapghan over the back of their persons favourite chair or across the foot of the bed, a reminder of their precious time together at the end of life.

Last January, Hospice put out the call for more lapghans because our supply was low, and to date we have received 112 in response to that call!

Angels Remembered is our beloved annual holiday initiative where people place an angel ornament on our outdoor tree in memory of someone special who has died.
