Awareness Initiatives
Daisy Day
The “Adopt a Daisy Day” campaign first began in Cape Breton in 1997 as a way to raise awareness about the need for hospice and palliative care in our community. Since that time, various locations throughout Nova Scotia have adopted the campaign. Colchester East Hants Hospice Society for introduced the initiative in 2007 and with the support of community volunteers we have shared Daisy Day around our region.
Share the Love
Our Share the Love campaign is an annual fundraiser that runs from January until Valentine’s Day. Each purchase of a chocolate HUG, lovingly handmade at the Sweet Spot Chocolate Shop in Elmsdale, NS is a chance to share and remember that everyone needs a HUG at times.
Our chocolate HUG is $2 each and comes in three (3) flavours; dark, milk and white chocolate.
Sharing the Knowledge Conference
Our conference is designed to bring people together to share best practices in how to best support our communities in grief.
Angels Remembered
Angels Remembered has become an important part of the holiday season for many residents of Colchester East-Hants. Dozens of committed volunteers crochet hundreds of angels and are present at the tree locations where hundreds of angels are placed each year. This annual event was an idea sparked from our very own volunteers, Janice Little and Betty Riddell, to reach out and connect with those in the community grieving a loss during the holidays. The programs success is not only measured by the funds raised to support our programs and service, but also knowing that with every crocheted ornament placed on our trees there is a story of a loved one, an angel remembered, at Christmas.
