New This Fall – Hospice Social Club!

Hospice Social Club

  • Hospice recognizes the mental and physical benefits of getting out of the house and coming together in the community. There are an abundance of groups, activities and events already happening in our community, so the Hospice Society has created a monthly social group to get you out and introduce you to what is going on!
  • Activities will vary from paint nights, to walks on local trails, to card nights, and more! Some activities will require registration and a fee however if this is a barrier for you then please do not hesitate to let us know as there may be subsidies available.
  • If you are interested in attending or have any ideas for future activities for the group please contact lpurdy@cehhospice.org or call our office at (902)893-3265!

We asked Colchester East Hants Hospice Society Volunteer, Sandra Murphy: Why is Hospice important to you?

"I was asked by a friend about seven years ago to take the Hospice Society course with her. At that time, I did not know a lot about Hospice. I am so grateful that I did so as I love volunteering in the Palliative Care Unit at the hospital. It is so heartwarming to be with clients "at the end". I like to hold their hand and tell them that they are not alone and that I am there with them. It is a real honour and I feel extremely blessed to be a part of the Hospice Society."

Did you know... We have volunteers that share their time and talents to make sure that the kitchen in the Palliative Care Unit smells amazing? Hospice provides baking supplies and our volunteers bring their favourite recipes for baked goods that they prepare right in the kitchen and share with patients and their families.

If you would like to make a donation of baking supplies we are always in need of flour, chocolate chips and margarine or gift cards that our volunteers can purchase supplies, as they are needed. We are always grateful for the generous support of our community!

We asked Colchester East Hants Hospice Society Volunteer, Steve Taylor: Why is Hospice important to you?

"I was wanting to do more volunteering and I happened to listen to a gentleman from Halifax that spoke about Hospice and I was inspired by his talk. I was quite taken by his insight and I decided to stop by the Hospice office in Truro, completed my application, went through the interview process, took the training course and have been a volunteer for the past six years.

I really enjoy being a volunteer and look forward to my weekly visits at the Palliative Care Unit. It is a pleasure to be associated with all the other dedicated Hospice volunteers, staff, Board of Directors, doctors, nurses, LPN's, social workers and cleaning staff at the hospital.

I always have a more positive attitude after my visits."
