We asked Colchester East Hants Hospice Society Volunteer Jean Gascoigne:

Why is Hospice important to you?

"My journey to hospice came when I needed help with coping with grief from the loss of my Mother, Father and twin brother as well as close friends in a very short period of time.

After giving myself time to heal and face the world in a different way, I realized that I would like to give back some of the knowledge I had learned from my life lessons with grief.

The opportunity arose to take a training course which hospice put on. This gave me the tools and understanding to help families in my community by sitting with their loved ones while they took a little well earned time for themselves.

Everyone will suffer loss in their lives but with the guidance of hospice many families will be able to face the loss of a loved one knowing that there is always someone there for them with just a smile, word of encouragement or hug to give them courage to face another day."
