The Debaters Live! to perform in Truro in support of the Colchester East Hants Hospice Society

For immediate release

Truro, NS – The Colchester East Hants Hospice Society is pleased to announce that The Debaters Live! With Steve Patterson will be performing at You’ll Die Laughing 2016. The event will take place on Thursday, May 5th at 7:30pm at the Cobequid Education Centre (CEC), 34 Lorne Street, in Truro, NS. The night will include a pre-event reception beginning at 6:00pm. Doors to the auditorium will open at 7:00.

Now in its 9th season on CBC Radio One, The Debaters is the hit show where comics go toe to toe in a battle of laughs and logic. Hosted by award winning comedian Steve Patterson, The Debaters is a combustible mix of sharply crafted comedic rants and hilarious adlibs. The engaging format is part stand-up, part quiz show and part comedy competition with the live audience picking the winner.

The Debaters Live! is a total of 60-70 minutes. 30 minutes of stand-up (10 from each of the three comedians) a hard-hitting 35 minute debate! Three comedians in one night!

The host to The Debaters, Steve Patterson, has been a professional headliner since 1997 and has taped numerous national television specials in the past decade including four Just For Laughs galas. His performance in 2010 earned him a Gemini nomination and caused host Steve Martin afterwards to exclaim “If I’d have known he was going to be THAT good, I would have cancelled him.” Following that performance, Patterson was name Best Male Stand-up Comedian at the 2011 and 2013 Canadian Comedy awards and most recently has been nominated for the 2015 Canadian Screen Awards as Host on HGTV’s “I Wrecked My House”. If you missed his nationally toured theatre show entitled “This is Not Debatable”, it is available on itunes but Steve will be back on stage with a brand new 90 minute show expressing all the opinions he doesn’t get to express as the moderator of The Debaters in “I Laugh Therefore I Think”. Did you know... Hospice has a wonderful community of volunteers who lovingly create our “lapghans".

Many of our lapghans, or lap blankets, are crocheted by the talented group pictured above at the Creative Café at the Valley United Church.

They regularly use their crochet skills to make sure that our volunteers are able to give these comforts of home to as many patients as we can on the Palliative Care Unit. For more information about our "lapghans" and how you can help out, please call (902) 893-3265, drop by our office, or message us on Facebook.

We asked Colchester East Hants Hospice Society Vice-President, Ricardo Garcia: Why is Hospice important to you?

"One of the precious things that we have in our life is family, who we could not live without. Originally from the Philippines, and growing up in a culture where family ties are valued the most, I certainly faced personal challenges when I moved to Canada almost a decade ago.

I created my own version of family with my friends, my patients in the long term care facility and the community that I served. As a registered nurse, I experienced grief and loss through people who were family to me; patients and friends. Fortunately, Hospice was there with us every step of the way. It gave me comfort and peace of mind to know that there were volunteers keeping a friend company when I was at work and to offer support to a patient after my visit.

To pay it forward, I volunteered to be part of the Hospice family knowing that Hospice resonates with my dream to build a more compassionate community."

Did you know... our Memorial Garden was created by the combined hard work of wonderful volunteers, plants and trees from Joanne Venner's Garden and a grant from the United Way?

People often remark how beautiful the garden is when it is in full bloom. That beauty is not possible without volunteers who love to work with the earth.

Here is our garden view from May 15, 2019. Watch our garden grow over the coming months... and be sure to check out our Garden & Chat events if you are interested in helping us out this season.

If you have a green thumb, or just love being outside with great people, contact us at (902) 893-3265, or send us a Facebook message.
