For immediate release

Truro, NS – The Colchester East Hants Hospice Society is pleased to announce that Ron James will be performing at You’ll Die Laughing 2015 in support of CEH Hospice programming. The event will take place on Friday, May 8th at 8:00pm at the Cobequid Education Centre (CEC), 34 Lorne Street, in Truro, NS. The night will include a pre-event reception beginning at 7:00pm, with special guests Mitchell Johnson of Big Dog 100.9 and Rod Deviller of Cat Country 99.5. The reception will include bar, hors d’oeuvres, 50/50 draw, light entertainment, and raffle.

Ron James is Canada’s award-winning, premier selling comedian, whose unique blend of poetically charged, kinetically driven, 100-minute non-stop stand-up comedy performances have been rewarded with standing ovations at sold out theatres from coast to coast.

Ron was voted Canadian Comedian of the Year at the inaugural Canadian Comedy Awards in 2000 and also garnered a Gemini Award as part of the writing team for This Hour Has 22 Minutes. He’s also enjoyed popular and coast-to-coast critical acclaim for five 60-minute specials for CBC TV: The Road Between My Ears, filmed in Toronto; Quest For The West, filmed in Calgary; West Coast Wild, filmed in Victoria, Back Home, filmed in Halifax and Manitoba Bound, filmed in Winnipeg. Ron has also enjoyed great success with the hit CBC comedy, The Ron James Show.

About Hospice

The Colchester East Hants Hospice Society provides care and support to families as they face serious illness, death and grief. Hospice volunteers and professionals work closely with the Palliative Care team in putting the patient at the centre and in control of his or her own life and care. By delivering psychological, social, spiritual and practical support, Hospice promotes quality of living and quality of dying.

A registered charity, Hospice relies on the support of a generous community to fund all programs and receives no direct government funding. Hospice operations are entirely funded by private donations, bequests, fundraisers, and community grants. All funds raised from You’ll Die Laughing will benefit crucial Hospice programs.

We asked Colchester East Hants Hospice Society NSCC work placement student, Cordelia Payne: Why is Hospice important to you?

"I chose to do my work placement with hospice because the care and support shown to families entering the grieving process has been a topic of interest of mine the past couple of years. I believe that death should not be a taboo subject.

It is something we all encounter in our lives and to be able to face it, cope with it, have the support of others within it, and to be able to make the choices best for us and honour the feelings of the deceased is a very empowering thing. I think it is one of the most beautiful things you can offer a person, to be able to support them in a time of such vulnerability and to let them know that they have the ability to make choices, even in a time where everything seems out of their control."
