Rick Mercer Event
Our organization would not exist without the thousands of hours our dedicated team of volunteers contributes to Hospice each year. They freely share their time and many talents to keep our programs operating and, each year, to serve a greater number of Colchester and East Hants families. We need you!
There is a role for everyone in our organization, regardless of whether your interest is working with patients or providing other types of support.
  • Patient & Family Visiting (in hospital and in the community)
  • Patient Driving & Household Chores
  • Bereavement Support
  • Board committees
  • Educational activities
  • Fundraising events
  • Reception and Administration
  • Group volunteering

Training and Education provided

Each potential volunteer is interviewed and screened to ensure our organization can meet their expectations in volunteering, and patient safety is preserved. Once an application is accepted, every volunteer is oriented and trained at the level appropriate for their volunteer assignment(s). For example, those who wish to become patient companions complete a 24 hour education program prior to volunteering.

Volunteer Monthly Meeting
Each month we gather with our volunteers over lunch to share their experiences, discuss any concerns or new ideas and generally touch base. Please check our calendar for the next monthly meeting details.

Lunch and Learn
Several times each year we offer an opportunity for our volunteers and clients to gather together in a workshop setting for some education on a topic related to end of life care. Check our calendar of upcoming events for our next workshop.
